Vinyl Fence Information

Vinyl is a short way of saying “Poly Vinyl Chloride” or PVC.
It is a very durable product that can withstand the harsh outdoor environment. It is safe and does not leach chemicals into the soil or environment. Vinyl is classified as self extinguishing which means that if it is lit on fire is will self extinguish and not continue to burn.
Vinyl is a product which can be recycled. It can be ground and then reformed into other vinyl products.
Virgin Vinyl: This is new material that has not been recycled. We recommend using virgin vinyl fence. “Regrind” or “Grey-back” is a recycled vinyl that has a greater chance of having varying consistency.

Co-extrusions are used only in top quality vinyl.  The inner layer adds strength and flexibility while the outer layer has UV inhibiting compounds.  The main UV inhibiting compound is titanium dioxide.  This is the same UV inhibiting compound found in sun tan lotion.

A big difference in the vinyl available today is the way it is held together.  High quality vinyl fence is held together with pre-routed posts and pocket rails.  Low quality fence is constructed with blank posts, metal brackets and then the flimsy pre-assembled fence sections are screwed to the brackets.  Top quality vinyl fences don’t use screws!  The differences really add up and we recommend seeking the consultation of a professional before purchasing a fence that is designed to last a lifetime.
