Different grades of chain link: The most popular types of wire used to construct Chain-Link fence are 9 gauge and 11 gauge. 9 gauge is thicker and stronger than 11 gauge. It is better for commercial locations or areas where security and long lasting strong fence is desired. Another difference is the coating on the wire. There are different amounts of zinc coating that are applied to the wire. The more zinc, the longer the fence will resist rust. Typically, the best wire has two ounces of zinc per square foot. Naturally it costs more than wire that only has .9 ounces of zinc per square foot. Another big difference in chain link is the thickness of the posts and rail. Heavy Duty commercial schedule 40 posts and are thick and durable. Residential posts are much thinner and less durable. Residential pipe is sometimes .047" thick compared to .125" for heavy pipe. If you have any questions or concerns about what grade of chain link might be appropriate for you please contact one of our staff members for more information.
